2019 ‘Show Me, Tell Me’ Questions | UK Driving Test

2019 ‘Show Me, Tell Me’ Questions | UK Driving Test

As part of the UK driving test the examiner
will ask 2 vehicle safety questions about the car being used for the test. At the start
of the test, before the driving starts there will be a ‘tell me’ question – where you
would describe how you’d carry out a safety task. Then, later on while you’re driving
the car, there will be a ‘show me’ question – where you would show how you’d carry out
another safety task. Let’s take a look at the ’Tell Me’ questions
first. We’ll be demonstrating every answer, but on the test you would only have to describe
the answer to the examiner. Tell me how you’d check that the brakes
are working before starting a journey. Describe how you would drive slowly somewhere
safe, and then brake the car to a stop. The brake pedal should feel firm, not spongy,
and also the car should not pull to one side as it stops. Tell me where you’d find the information
for the recommended tyre pressures for this car and how tyre pressures should be checked. Describe that you would look inside the driver’s
door and check the tyre pressure information sticker, then check the tyres with a pressure
gauge when the tyres are cool. Compare the gauge reading to the sticker, and remember
to check all 4 tyres, including the spare if fitted. Tell me how you make sure your head restraint
is correctly adjusted so it provides the best protection in the event of a crash. Describe that you would check and adjust the
head restraint until it is approximately level with the top of your head. Tell me how you’d check the tyres to ensure
that they have sufficient tread depth and that their general condition is safe to use
on the road. Describe how you would check all 4 tyres all
the way around, using a tread depth gauge to check the central 3/4 of the tyre. There
must be at least 1.6mm of tread to be legal. We should also check the side wall of the
tyre for damage – there should not be any cuts or bulges. Tell me how you’d check that the headlights
and tail lights are working. You don’t need to exit the vehicle. Describe that you would turn on the car’s
ignition, the instruments should light up. Then turn on the dipped headlamps, and check
the warning lamps have illuminated. Finally, walk around the car to check the head lamps
and tail lamps are working correctly. Tell me how you’d know if there was a problem
with your anti-lock braking system. Describe that you would turn on the car’s
ignition, and look for the yellow ABS warning light. If the light stays lit, it would indicate
a fault. Tell me how you’d check the direction indicators
are working. You don’t need to exit the vehicle. Describe that you would switch on the hazard
warning lights, then walk around the car to check all six indicators are working correctly. Tell me how you’d check the brake lights
are working on this car. Describe that you would turn on the car’s
ignition, then push and hold the brake pedal to illuminate the brake lights. Next, ask
someone to check the brake lights are working correctly. Tell me how you’d check the power-assisted
steering is working before starting a journey. Describe that the steering will feel very
heavy with the engine turned off, but after starting the engine the steering should feel
much lighter. Tell me how you’d switch on the rear fog
light(s) and explain when you’d use it/them. You don’t need to exit the vehicle. Describe that you would turn the car’s ignition
on, then switch on the dipped headlamps. Next, switch on the rear fog lamp and check the
amber warning light is lit. Finally, state that fog lights should only be used when visibility
is less than 100 metres. Tell me how you switch your headlight from
dipped to main beam and explain how you’d know the main beam is on. Describe that you would turn the car’s ignition
on, then switch on the dipped headlamps. Next, switch on the head lamp’s main beam, and
state that the blue warning light confirms the main beam is on. Tell me how you’d check that the engine
has sufficient oil. Pull the bonnet release inside the car to
pop the bonnet up. After releasing it with the small catch, open the bonnet and secure
with the stay. Describe that you would remove the engine oil dipstick, wipe the dipstick
clean, replace and remove the dipstick again, before checking the oil level against the
maximum and minimum markings. Tell me how you’d check that the engine
has sufficient engine coolant. Open the bonnet and secure with the stay.
Identify the engine coolant reservoir, and describe that you would check the fluid level
against the Full and Low markings. Tell me how you’d check that you have a
safe level of hydraulic brake fluid. Open the bonnet and secure with the stay.
Identify the brake fluid reservoir, and describe that you would check the fluid level against
the maximum and minimum markings. Later on, during your driving test the examiner
will also ask you to show them how you would operate one of the car’s controls whilst
you are driving. If you forget where the control is, you are allowed to stop the car and find
it, and then drive on again and operate the control. When it’s safe to do so, can you show me
how you wash and clean the rear windscreen? Operate the rear wash/wipe system for a few
seconds, and wait until the rear window is clean. When it’s safe to do so, can you show me
how you wash and clean the front windscreen? Operate the front wash/wipe system for a few
seconds, and wait until the windscreen is clean. When it’s safe to do so, can you show me
how you’d switch on your dipped headlights? Switch on the dipped headlamps, and check
the 2 green warning lights illuminate to confirm the lights are on. When it’s safe to do so, can you show me
how you’d de-mist the front windscreen? Adjust the climate controls to set ‘front
de-mist’. Don’t forget to turn it off again! When it’s safe to do so, can you show me
how you’d set the rear de-mister? Adjust the climate controls to set ‘rear
de-mist’. When it’s safe to do so, can you show me
how you’d operate the horn? Check there is no other road users nearby,
then press the centre of the steering wheel until the horn sounds. When it’s safe to do so, can you show me
how you’d open and close the side window? Use the drivers window controls to open and
close the window fully. If you get either or even both of these questions
wrong they will be marked as 1 driver (or minor) fault, but since the knowledge learnt
here will allow you to operate your car effectively and keep it roadworthy it is worth taking
the time to learn these answers. If you found this video interesting then please

  6. took my test today & passed first time with only 5 minors- i watched these videos the night before and they super helped me to just seal all the info in my memory. i found the test really easy & if you just treat it like a normal lesson but with a new instructor it’s not bad at all!! good luck everyone else w your tests x

  7. Getting nervous now. My test is in two weeks. Must prepare! Its my first one. Let's hope I pass first time…😓

  9. Thank you so much im 17 and its my first time doing a driving test, this video was extremely helpful thank you mate 😊💪

  10. Why, when you're describing the fluid checks, specifically oil and water, do you not do it when it's cold anymore? The levels will be different plus, if you muck about with the coolant reservoir when it's hot, it's dangerous! I've been driving for over 30yrs and I find it mind-blowing that the test has to ask such ridiculous questions! If you don't know how to do this stuff, GET A PEDAL-CAR! Seriously though, this is a level of stupidity too far. The answers to the questions aren't even complete! Tantalising drivers like this is really only going to make the roads more dangerous not less.

  11. have my driving test tomorrow, so nervous but hopefully I will do most things correctly without making any serious mistakes! These videos are so helpful, thanks.

  12. Obviously it's the fast time test when we are driving why start the question obviously everyone scared please do something it's not fair.

  17. Thank you so much. Are these all the possible questions which can appear? Or only a couple to demonstrate answers?

  18. Thank you so much for this video. I thought not knowing either or one of the questions would lead to an immediate fail, after watching hours worth of show me tell mes I realised your video was definitely the most useful, clear and understandable video. I really really appreciate it !!

  20. Thank you so much guys. I passed yesterday, couldn't have done it without watching your videos. Good luck to everyone else watching.

  21. Passed my test today with 6 minors. Watched these videos the night before and found it super helpful! Thanks a bunch! thumbs up

  22. Each question is explained clearly, calmly, the narration unhurried, with appropriate emphasis being on location of controls, icons, etc (I know every car is said to be different, but most are basically the same and mainly it's just small style details that differ). Time has been taken to allow viewers to take in the information properly, and we're not hurled along from question to question with the briefest glimpse of what to do.
This is very well done and I feel much more confident in approaching this part of my forthcoming test. I sincerely thank you 🙂

  23. My instructor has the same car as yours: Kia Reo, so I found your video very useful and instructive 👍 thank you so much 👍

  24. As always a clearly explained and very useful video. I think that quite a number of 'qualified' drivers could benefit from watching this video and many of the other videos on this channel.

  25. Passed my Driving test today with 3 minors. These videos were a great help, what's the best way I can provide a tip to support your good work?

  26. Hadn’t done any show me tell me preparation and had my test today. Luckily I listened to this before my exam. I’ve been using a lot of your videos and passed today with 5 minors!!!!!!

  27. Great videos. I passed my test in Bury last Thursday. I failed the first time, so I had to “buckle down” and get things right. Watched all your videos over and over. My girlfriend thought I was watching something naughty on my IPAD. I got the ABS question and show me how to turn on rear de mister while driving. I am 57 years old and an American working at Lakenheath base. I would of failed again if it wasn’t for these Advanced Driving School videos.

  28. Passed my practical driving test today, second time. Watched this video last night and today morning before setting off for the test to recap everything. It's a fantastic video, putting all the show me tell me questions under one roof.
    Thanks for the effort.

  29. Thankyou så much very importante information att driva car.I live Sweden and i mdoing my test i Swedish but i KNOW English that is very Good. Tack så mycket

  30. I binge watched these videos and I passed this time round! Oh sweet victory! I appreciate your very helpful and professional videos and will keep watching them to refresh my memory.

  31. Great Vid, although I do wish the music was not so much louder than the audio instruction. Because having loud sudden music is a cause for concern to other people around, so I turn it to a reasonable level; problem then is I can't hear what is being said in the instruction. But thanks for such a useful vid :¬)

  32. Got my test in under two weeks, it’s not my actual driving I’m worried about it’s my sense of direction😂

  33. The video is wrong about the head restraint, the head restraint should be level with the top of your ears and not your head…

  34. I dont understand why it says "You dont need to exit the vehicle." And then proceeds to say "Walk around the vehicle to check the lights are working correctly." Because obviously you're gonna have to exit the vehicle to check they're working? I'm so confused 😩

  36. In lot of question for ex it was said "how would you check that lights are working"? The answer said to switch on the lights, check in dashboard and then go out. It is quite confusing as question mentioned to stay inside?

  37. Alhamdulillah I have passed in my very first attempt it was easy. & Thanks to my kind instructor & especially Advance Driving School made even easier to pass I only used these premium quality videos all the time. The best idea is that be calm and relax in the test and forward planning and can make it easier. Thanks Advance Driving

  38. its very hard to memorise these as there is so much information given about each answer. I've seen loads of mock tests where the learner answers the question in only a couple of words, yet it was apparently correct. surely to remember all of them it would be better to simplify?
