I started listening to Chaka Khan, so it was a lot of Chaka Khan in my house, a lot of Aretha Franklin in my house, a lot of Mahalia Jackson. Oh my God, so many singers. Regina Bell, and then, when I got older, it was like Beyonce was a
huge musical influence to me. Like, just her stardom, in general. – And you were in Dreamgirl- You were in the, what adaptation was that? – I wanted her to come and see it so bad! – [Terrell] She didn’t see it? – [Amber] She didn’t see it. – [Terrell] No, B! – She didn’t see it. I wanted her to see it, they were in the UK and I was like, “Somebody figure out how to get-” – And you played Effie, right? – I play Effie White, yeah. Jennifer Hudson did come and see it. Jennifer Holiday came and saw it, so that was really dope. – That’s amazing. – At our warm up somebody was like, “Man, Jennifer Holiday’s
gonna be sittin’ right there” and I was like, “Huh?” – Did you talk to her? Did you meet her? – Yeah! – What did she tell you? – I met her after, and the whole cast met her, and she came onstage, and she had nothing but
amazing things to say. Like, she just threw me
in front of the company and just, basically,
just gave me the go ahead and gave me the okay, like. She was like, “You did good.” – Cause everybody can’t play Effie, hear? Everybody can’t hit that in
