APUS: Upload a Picture to Sakai

APUS: Upload a Picture to Sakai

Pictures add so much to this class but through
time I’ve learned that students don’t necessarily always know how best to display those pictures
and make them available for everyone else. So I want to quickly show here in just a little
tutorial how to do that. Here I’ve got a new screen where you would type in your new forum
post. Lets just call this “Add a Picture”. And theres this button here that if you just
scroll over it it will say “image”. If you click on that it will bring up this new window
and under image info there is a URL thats blank. Thats where the URL…where the online
classroom will be tracing that URL to where that picture is located. So you can load any
picture that you want from your home computer through the classroom and post that on to
your forum. So here is the important part. when you click on Browse Server, it will open
up a new window, and then make sure you are in your classroom, or for our classroom for
Meteorology 137 (SCIN137). And what I would do for your pictures is click on student pictures.
And now here, you can create a new folder (if you want) and for this sake, let call
it “example”. (but your name would do well), then I’ll click ok. Then I’ll go in to that
folder. Its blank right now. What I’m going to do is “browse”. And what I’m going to do
open up a file that I have on my own computer here. What I’ve got here is a picture called
Joel and Mike. And what you’ll see is….there it is, right on the bottom here. I’m gonna
click “upload”. Its gonna take just a little bit, its a bigger picture. Once it uploads
into this screen, I simply click on it and then you’ll see that this whole URL is filled
in with kind of a complicated thing, but that is the path to the picture. And because I
put it inside the classroom resources it is now available for everyone to see. The classrooms
require us to put some alternative text in here so I’ll just say “Joel and Mike”. And
then the size of the picture is important since it has to fit in the forum. I would
keep it under 800. So lets just try 600 for now. Click this lock right here (make sure
it is closed not open) to make sure it is properly portioned in size, the aspect ratio
is correct (unaltered) and then here are some other details if you want to arrange them
that way. I’ll click “ok” and then this will allow the picture to show up with in the forum
itself. This is a picture of me and Mike Bettes. For anyone who watches the weather channel
you might recognize who Mike Bettes is. I met him on VORTEX2. But this will then allow
you to display pictures actually in your forum posts without actually attaching them, so
everyone can see them right away. “This is an example of posting a picture” [typing].
You get the idea there. Questions, just let me know. This will be required in the week
2 forum. Hopefully you can use it in this class for later forums and also in other classes.
Alright, thanks guys!
