Cinema 2012

Cinema 2012

Big things have small beginnings. So what’s your story? My story? Django… You’re exactly the one I’m looking for. The only people that interest me are the mad ones. The ones who are mad to live. The ones that burn, burn like roman candles across the night. Everybody needs a hobby.
– So what’s yours? Resurrection. You’re probably gonna want to get this on camera. We’re survivors. We control the fear. Without the fear we are all as good as dead. This is my life now. You had yours already. So why don’t you do what old men do and die. I’ve no control on my side!
– Everybody in brace positions. This is the end of LCD Soundsystem. When you start a band do you imagine how it will end? What kind of bird are you? Were you disappointed
when you got to know me? I’m such a mess.
– I love your mess. I don’t think we can figure out all of our problems. But I will just love you every step of the way. Hi, Frank.
It’s a pleasure to meet you. How do you know. I’m doing the same thing here as you are.
Gathering material. This is my life. Life is gathering material. I’m tired of being dead. And I want to come back to life. Prometheus… Are you seeing this? When Gotham is ashes, then you have my permission to die. If we can’t protect the earth, you can be damn well sure we’ll avenge it. When it all goes quiet behind my eyes… I see everything that made me, flying around in invisible pieces. The scientists of the future, they’re gonna find it all. You lie and kill in the service of liars and killers. You pretend to be separate. To have your own code. Something that makes up for the horrors. But they will never go away. The final mission to save mankind has failed. The 70-mile wide asteroid
is set to collide with earth in exactly three weeks time. I wish I’d met you a long time ago. There isn’t enough time. Never would’ve been.

  1. Thank you. I'm using this videos as a list of "must see". They're incredibly well done and you have good taste in music too!

  2. I'll keep you all up to date on my Tumblr, Twitter and Facebook accounts (you'll find them on my channel page)! Thanks!

  3. I've been following your work since 2008, and still, I get amazed every time I watch one of your videos. I keep think what am I going to do in the end of the year, without your "cinema 2013", seriously 🙁 Anyway, you should be proud of yourself. Your work is amazing!

  4. Thanks! There's plenty of other talented editors out there doing end-of-the-year retrospectives, so I'm sure you'll find something to compensate. Thanks for the support!

  5. Zo vaak gekeken al en blijft zo vet. Kan je alsjeblieft voor altijd alle trailers knippen? Alvast bedankt. Mvgr. Kris Patmo

  6. 2012 is a great year for cinema tributes, but not because of this video–which is disproportionately boring (though the Run Boy Run part is quite good), has so many lame quotes, and the film selection is painfully limited. It was watched once, then forgotten, while other, concurrent tributes were frequently enjoyed. This unappealing nature started happening in 2011, and I really hope that 2013 won't show the most boring or cheesy tribute yet.

  7. i was going to say "here again, can't wait for 2013!" and realized… there won't be one. it'll be strange to be in 2014 without it. the cinema series has always been like a photo album filled with memories for me. whether the time is good or bad, i can open it, read it, and in the end close it. it somehow gives me the strength to going forward.

  8. Kees you are genuinely gifted. I've watched all your Cinema series on here a few times and this last entry is my favourite. Songs, cuts and clip choices are all just so, so good. I wish you the best of luck in whatever you go on to achieve. Thanks for your endless hours of hard work, please keep it up! You will win an Oscar one day for best editing.

  9. It is this time of the year again. By looking back at the cinema of the passing year, I also look back my own life, try to remember the people I was with, the places I went to, the laughters, and tears.

  10. I owe my love of the album "Lonerism" by Tame Impala to this video. So thank you for that! But also thank you for this series. I always have admired your way of creating motion through your editing cuts and and how you managed to make subconscious/temporal connections through the music and shots you chose. It's truely masterful!

  11. These videos are very marvelous and quite the spectacle. I am saddened that I was too late to experience it earlier and that there will be no more. Although, the Cinema series has been one that I have truly enjoyed. Thank you.

  12. Please make more videos, I owe my love for Cloud Control, Tame Impala and Wood Kid to these videos… Please make more!!!

  16. Wow, you did it yet again. With your amazing sense for composing these cutscenes, exactly fitting bits of dialogue and background music, I really hope we'll see your professional career take off some time within the next few years. A rare talent you've got there. Keep up the great work!

  17. I keep coming back to this video, one of my favourites on all of youtube for sure! It gives me chills everytime and contains some of my favourite film moments from 2012. AND I am a fan of The Black Keys now thanks to this video 😉  I'm looking forward to your future work!!

  18. It gets me sad to realize that not only you won't be doing this amazing 201# restrospective anymore like you used to, but also that you are not uploading anything else lately. Such a shame. You have a gift, sir.

  19. I get shivers every time i watch this. 2012 was an amazing year for me and most of those movies somehow connect to memories i have from then. It's always a pleasure watching this. And it helps getting over things.

Kees, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

  20. Just watched the whole Dark Knight trilogy the other day. Ahhhh I love my Batty! Loved seeing Bruce's face in this…Other than that, fantastic editing! I love how you can tell a story even while mashing together so many different but amazing films.

  21. Hey Keys,
I wrote to you a long time ago saying how I appreciated your work.
Anyhow, I've been a fan for 7 years now and I just wanted to let you know I still am.
Hope all is well in your world,

  22. ohno its muted 🙁 is there anyway i can watch the unmuted one? this one has always been my fave. i watch it all the time as it is so therapeutic :((((

  23. well this bites. I came to revisit this masterpiece from 5 years and the audio is copyrighted. .. . May you repost?

  24. NO! IT'S MUTED! IS THERE ANYWAY I CAN WATCH IT WITH SOUND?! This video inspired me to work on my own films when I needed it, this video is an inspiration and a necessity. Could you upload it to Vimeo? It's my favorite video of all time!

  25. Is it only me, or is there no sound to this one? Which is a shame because this is mt favorite one, introduced me to Tame Impala.

  26. Please!!!! Is it possible to watch it anywhere with music? I love this video it's giving me a lot of me pover to do!!!

  27. Is there a mirror of this anywhere I can watch it unmuted? I just re-watched your whole Cinema series and when I got to this and found it silenced, I was heartbroken. I would absolutely love to get to watch this again as you intended it.

  28. Just wanted to watch this incredible video again after a period of time just to find out that the music is gone due to copyright restricitons. what a fucking shame that is. i adore this video and how amazingly it has been put together. Kees, could you please, PLEASE somehow reupload your "last" CINEMA video on vimeo?
Or somehow share this via dropbox?? i want to see it so bad with your music!
