Great Movies Coming In 2018 That Aren’t Remakes Or Sequels

In a world where just about everything is
a prequel, sequel, or reboot, it’s refreshing to see an original story make it to the big
screen. Fortunately, 2018 is bringing a ton of original
films to theaters, and they’re worth getting excited about. If you’ve got sequel burnout, you can definitely
look forward to these movies. The Commuter Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, The Commuter
is the story of an everyday Joe who stumbles into a weird conspiracy during his train ride
home and finds himself tasked with finding out the identity of a mysterious passenger
before the end of the line. Most everyday Joes would steer clear of that
kind of situation, but this everyday Joe is actually an everyday Liam Neeson, so you know
it’s about to get crazy. “I had a Liam Neeson nightmare. I dreamt I kidnapped his daughter and he just
wasn’t having it.” You can check out The Commuter when it opens
in wide release on January 12th, 2018. Proud Mary Actress Taraji P. Henson is set to star in
Proud Mary as a mob hitwoman with roughly a thousand guns who’s forced to deal with
a surly kid whom she accidentally orphans. The trailer promises a shoot-em-up action
extravaganza that looks like Jackie Brown on steroids. Check it out on January 12th. Game Night The comedy thriller Game Night sounds like
the perfect vehicle for Jason Bateman’s deadpan brand of humor. In development since 2013, the film is about
a group of friends who find themselves in the middle of a murder mystery. “And then a squeaky toy. For the pain.” This will be the second feature for directing
duo John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the first being the 2015 reboot of Vacation,
which wasn’t terribly well-received. But they also helped write Spider-Man: Homecoming,
so they obviously have a comic touch. Game Night is out February 23rd, 2018. Red Sparrow Fox recently released a teaser trailer for
the Jennifer Lawrence spy thriller Red Sparrow at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, and it certainly
looks interesting. The adaptation of the 2013 novel of the same
name has Lawrence playing a Russian ballerina-turned-spy with a form of synesthesia that allows her
to see emotions as colors. She starts to have thoughts of turning double
agent after falling for her target, a CIA agent played by Joel Edgerton. Red Sparrow opens on March 2nd, 2018. Alpha Direct by Albert Hughes, Alpha is ice-age
thriller about a young man who gets separated from the rest of his tribe. To help himself get home, he befriends a wolf
which has been abandoned by its pack. Sony Pictures is promising a March 2nd release
in 3-D IMAX, which will be an awesome way to see this movie, judging by the trailer. A Wrinkle in Time For generations of readers, Madeleine L’Engle’s
young adult fantasy novel A Wrinkle in Time was the first gigantic mind-twist of their
young lives. The story of a teenage girl and her young
prodigy brother who must save their father with the help of interdimensional beings,
the book has defied proper adaptation for better than 50 years due to its sheer weirdness. Now, Disney is stepping in to show us how
it’s done. Ava DuVernay, whose 2014 drama Selma was nominated
for an Oscar for best picture, is handling directorial duties, and the all-star cast
includes Chris Pine, Reese Witherspoon, Zach Galifianakis, and Oprah Winfrey. If you’ve been a fan since childhood or just
want your brain twisted, you can catch A Wrinkle in Time on March 9th. Mortal Engines Philip Reeve’s Mortal Engines series of novels
is pretty nuts, and it’s been begging for a film adaptation since the first book’s 2001
publication. Enter Peter Jackson, who co-wrote the script
for the forthcoming film with his wife Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens. This trio also worked on all of the Lord of
the Rings films, and those turned out pretty good. The film takes place in a post-apocalyptic
society in which entire cities on wheels roam the landscape in search of resources. Judging by the the first trailer and the concept
art Peter Jackson has posted on social media, it’s safe to say that the movie will be a
visual powerhouse. It opens in wide release on December 14th,
2018. Extinction Starring Michael Peña, Extinction is a sci-fi
thriller about an alien invasion and a man who will do anything to protect his family. Emma Booth and Luke Cage’s Mike Colter round
out the supporting cast. Universal picked up the rights to the film
after an intense bidding war, so it obviously thinks this is a hot property. Thanks for watching! Click the Grunge icon to subscribe to our

  1. I would love to see a movie of the book "last of the breed" by Louis Lamore .
Some other books need to be made/remade into movies.
Wolf and Iron , Dune, Eragon( by Peter Jackson not Disney)
The campaign in Titan fall 2 would make an awesome movie….or Netflix to do a series( not animated).

  2. The commuter sounds too much like the one Liam Neeson made on the plane where he was thought to be the terrorist who was trying to hijack the plane

  3. Jennifer Lawrence is on the list. The NO WATCH list. She should have kept her mouth shut. Commuter is also on the list. He should have kept his mouth shut. Entertain us, that is all we want out of you. Well, maybe some charity work. Otherwise, not interested and will not Support with the money I have left.

  4. A wrinkle in time is a remake!!!!
If they want something new they should do books from ra salvatore!!!!
    We need a Drizzt movie!

  5. I want to see Colombiana, Salt, Proud Mary, Atomic Blonde and Hanna do some revenge shoot em up. In the sequel they are part of the group with John Wick, the Equalizer, El Mariachi, Smith, One- Two.

  6. Commuter – staring a man who converted to Islam and wants to disarm America to make it easier for Islam to take over. Not seeing that. Proud Mary with racist Danny Glover. Not seeing that. Red Sparrow staring Jennifer Lawrence, a charter member of Bloomberg's anti self defense Everytown: Creative Council. Not seeing that. A Wrinkle In Time staring Ophra, the left wing queen and mega racist. No seeing that.

  7. You can't call an adaptation of a book as new original content. The content was already out for public consumption. Original content would be something that has never been seen or told before

  8. Proud Mary sounds like the professional
Red Sparrow sounds la fem Nakkita
Disney doing a wrinkle in time will suck big time, I am sure it will be awash in political correctness bullshit.

  9. Make a list of movies that are not prequel, sequel, reboot AND movie / comics adaptation… And then talk about original content 🙂

  10. Sigh….So no sequels, reboots, or prequels I take it…..Just rehashes of stories that have been told and retold more times than I care to recall…..Unless one or more of these bombs looking for somewhere land pulls off a miracle I'm not seeing anything, thus far, that I would spend a dime on until they hit the $3.99 or less bin(s) at Walmart….And maybe not even then.

  11. I thought I would add that A Wrinkle in Time is a remake by Disney since they first released the film in 2003. It will no doubt have the same plot line if not better graphics.

  12. Just fyi wrinkle in time is a remake . they made it for tv and their is another low budget movie that was made a long time ago. Just sayin

  13. Movies that aren't remakes or sequels…. Then goes on to mention that each one either resembles Or is an adaptation of novel X.

  14. Ummm….hate to break it to you, but there was a Wrinkle in Time movie in the early 2000's. So, technically the 2018 one is a remake.

  15. There is not one original thing about any of these movies. Same boring stuff over and over again. You know what happens and how the movies ends even before you start watching them.

  16. I can't wait to see the movie on this list however they did make one mistake There Was A Wrinkle In Time movie made about 10 years ago so that movie is actually a remake

  17. A wrinkle in time has been on Netflix, of course not with this particular cast…. sooo technically this would be remake?!

  18. Mortal Engines could be cool…..
also Wrinkle in Time just bombed lolz i realize the vid came out in December lol

  19. Okay so if a movie is based off a book, comic book or anyother already established work then it's NOT "original"

  20. Some of those pics at the end are from a different Extinction movie that came out in 2015 starring Matthew Fox.

  21. Half these movies will crash and burn. Red Sparrow is already a flop. Perhps it was a good idea for Jennifer Lawrence to give up acting for awhile and fix our Democracy as she says. Didn't know it needed fixing. We still have the Bill of Rights. Maybe she wants to get rid of them like all the liberals want to do kind of gets in the way of thier agendas.

  22. Most of these look like the same old garbage. Won't pay a dime to watch Jennifer-idiot libtard- Lawrence movies. They need to get some new actors that are worth watching.
