How to Run an Independent Film Theater : Film Booking Agents: How to Run a Movie Theater

Hello! My name is Nancy Adler and on behalf
of Expert Village, today I’m going to tell you how to operate a cinema, a movie cinema.
When we started out we had to find a booking agent. That’s what they call them, which is
a person who has connections with all the film distributors such as Paramount, Warner
Brothers, various distributors, and who makes weekly calls or daily calls and books movies.
You really have to have such a person. If you don’t, then you’re really going to have
to devote a lot of time. We’ve always worked with a booking agent. The fellow that we work
with all these many years is names Steve Florin. He’s in Long island. We catch him on the telephone.
Calls go back and forth on Mondays. We get the ads in the papers Monday night. It’s frantic
kind of a situation. The best trade magazine if anyone would want to do this, they want
to pick up box office magazines. Also to classify ads and different things like that.

  1. Thank you so very much for the insight to this. I've been dreaming of opening my own theater since I was a Child…Showing Older Classic films as well as Newer Independent types…Another would be the Movies that have passed their time in the Regal types of cineplexes.
A major want of mine would be to occasionally show the Ultra Classics like the Original King Kong or Casablanca types…
The idea of a Booking agent would sounds like Wonderful advice. Thank you.
