Laverne’s Rocky Horror Connection | THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW

Laverne’s Rocky Horror Connection | THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW

I discovered “Rocky Horror”
when I was in college. I was in this very gender
non-conforming space. And this Frank-N-Furter
character in this film gave me so much more
permission to just go for it. Over the next several
years, meeting real transgender people, my own
gender exploration led me here. And I feel like in so
many ways this movie was the beginning of me
allowing myself to fully be. Since it was announced that
I’m playing Dr. Frank-N-Furter, so many people in the trans
community have come up to me and said, I went in
drag for the first time and everybody just thought I
was doing “Rocky Horror Picture Show,” but that was
really who I was, and that was the space
where I could express that, and eventually I transitioned. There’s all those kinds
of amazing stories. [MUSIC – THE ROCKY HORROR
PICTURE SHOW, “DON’T DREAM IT”] Don’t dream it, be it. For 40 years, people who felt
different in some sort of way have seen this film
and connected to it. And I have been one
of those people. And it is my hope that our
reimagining of “Rocky Horror Picture Show” will be
that for a new generation, will be that place, that
space where people can not just dream it but really be it.

  1. This is good, because what she says is what Rocky Horror is about…although of course it's also about the wild comedy!

  2. You didn't have to remake RHPS to make it relevant. It always was and shall be. They truly rode the money train on this since all this transgender hoopla is in the media and everywhere. They should have restored it, added in the musical numbers that were removed, and re released it in the theaters for a generation to discover.

  3. so because she is a trangender she can be doctor frank n furter? wow they should make a real man dressing like a transvestite… i mean this sucks
