New Star Wars Movies + Multiple TV Series Announced

New Star Wars Movies + Multiple TV Series Announced

How’s it going guys and geeks? Welcome to the Geekritique Show, my name is
Dakota and Jenn is… I’m not sure where she is actually. BUT THATS NOT IMPORTANT NOW. Quick update for you Star Wars fans, which… hopefully you are one if you’re here…,
but also interesting news for fans of Game of Thrones because today it was announced
that the creators of the hit HBO series, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are going to write
and produce a new series of Star Wars films. And while the mind may jump to the conclusion
that this has some connection to Rian Johnson’s proposed new trilogy of films OR the continuing
episodic Skywalker saga, it has been confirmed this new series of films will be separate
from those projects. As for when we’ll learn more about this
planned series? Probably not until 2019, unless details leak
early. Benioff and Weiss said that they “are honored
by the opportunity, a little terrified by the responsibility, and so excited to get
started as soon as the final season of ‘Game of Thrones’ is complete. The show will end its run in 2019. That’s not even all the news I have for
you guys, but I wanna take the time to stop and ask you all what you think. Where do you think this new series of films
is going? Will it be a trilogy? Will it be Old Republic based? Prequel prequels? An Obi-Wan series? What would you guys want to see? Also, if you’re new here and don’t find
my face, cadence, or editing skills to be too offensive, consider subscribing for more
geeky videos just like this! It seems like it would have been common sense
that the duo would take control of the new live action Star Wars tv series that Disney
will push on their 2019 streaming service, seeing as how they’ve made their name on
TV and all, but according to Disney CEO Bob Iger “Their interest was in creating a series
of films that are ‘Star Wars’ based,” and that they didn’t express interest about
a [tv] series.” But speaking about that tv series, it’s
also been announced today that Lucasfilm are working on multiple new shows set in the Star
Wars universe. The news comes from ABC’s Clayton Sandell
who tweets “Just In: Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger says there are “not just one”
but “a few” Star Wars series in development for the small screen. While this could mean more than two Star Wars
series in the pipeline, I’m guessing it’s just two for now. The Live action one we know about and, likely,
another animated series that will replace Star Wars Rebels, probably with Dave Filoni
at the helm. Rebels only has 5 more episodes to go before
its conclusion and will leave them open to work on another animated series. My hope for a future animated series? That they’ll explore Luke’s new Jedi Order
in between episodes 6 and 7. Mark Hamill is after all an extremely talented
voice actor. What do you guys think? Are you excited? Are you nervous? Should they take it one film at a time instead
of looking at full series? Let me know in the comments below, and don’t
forget to subscribe for more Star Wars news in the future. We plan to update our MCU chronological timeline
in the next few weeks, so stay tuned for that. Please like this video if you did. If you didn’t, dislike it I guess. But anyway guys, have a good one.

  1. This new is so exciting we are getting more live Action TV series what a time to be alive, Did you guys hear that the Original Star Wars Underworld TV series written by George Lucas was supposed to involve time Travel? The Story was going to be about a bunch of Bounty Hunters from after episode 6 they found a way to travel back in time and they were going to go back to the Phantom Menace era to kill Anikan Skywalker before he became Darth Vader but something goes wrong and they end up in the era between episode 3 and 4, what do you guys think of this storyline do you guys wants Time Travel to be apart of Star Wars?

  2. I am excited about this announcement. They are creators (yea, they adapted Song of Ice & Fire…but they have done other things, too) that are now in the Star Wars sandbox (yippie). This also means that we may get an Old Republic storyline (my favorite area to mine). Not confirmed, but seems a natural assumption (because of GoT). Even if they are not going that route, I am excited for new content, period. Also, it seems that they may be changing the model of one film per year to two…though these two will not be starting till after 2019 (at least). I also believe we will be getting more announcements for more films, soon, with diversity in mind…I am hoping for Ava Duvernay or someone that can tell a story with a different perspective…instead of white dudes (of whom I am). Just my opinion. Thanks for the video.

  3. I'd love to see a trilogy based on the old republic. Fans want to see lightsaber duels and they would see plenty of those 😋

  4. As a fan of Star Wars since I was a kid born in the 80s, I’m not going to lie and say I’m 100% sold on all this SW content coming out. As much as I’d love to see more ‘Star Wars’ related things, I feel like they’re pumping out so much right now. The reason I feel the universe was so popular to begin with wasn’t because they shot out a bunch of content every year. It was because the stories were solid. That being said? Once Episode 9 comes out I wish they’d let it all cool down a bit.

Speaking to other die hard fans that I know, even they’ve been feeling over saturated in SW related things as of late. Sure we still love it, but sometimes too much of a good thing can become a bad thing. It’s like trying to eat a GIANT cookie. Sure it’s delicious, but after a while it can make you sick if you consume too much all at once. If you pace yourself out and digest it slowly, you’ll have a better chance at not getting sick of it. We’ll see what the future holds, but I’m still hopeful if these things pan out right story wise it could be wonderful. Just some food for thought!
