Adobe Photoshop is a registered trademark

I’m a photographer and digital retouching artist here in New York City. In this clip
we’re going to talk about how to add text to pictures in Photoshop. You simply open
the picture that you wish to have text on, select your Text tool, and begin typing. And what you’ve done is created a layer, as
you can see if, you can see you’ve created a text layer, which now you’ve incorporated
into your photograph. You can change the font and the size; first of all you have to select
the text that you wish to change. You can change the font to anything you happen to
have on your computer. Change the size, make it smaller. This is a good way of labeling
pictures, just may perhaps make them into, say, send them onto friends with a funny caption,
or whatever, there’s any number of reasons why you might want to have text on your pictures.
And you also, as you can see in this case it’s yellow, but you can change the color
with your Color Picker, to white, or anything that you like. Place the text anywhere you
like, move it around by clicking and dragging with the Move tool, and place it wherever
you like. This is Steve Anthony, and this has been How to Add Text to Pictures in Photoshop.

  1. Hi, thanks. That worked fine on a 7.0 version of photoshop, now for some reason on the CS4 the text appears in between flashing lines and whenever I click any other tool the text just disappears! Wo hapen? 🙂

  2. I just realised what ^$%$ I was doing: the text colour was the same as the background, so naturally it became invisible when I was done editing it!!! I recommend the series "You suck at photoshop" 🙂

  3. I am no expert, but I doubt that it is possible, because the text will cover up the original picture, so the original information of the picture behind the text is lost.

  4. Thank you. However I am having trouble getting the text clear. I do not want to use a yellow or bright color. Is there anyway I can get the text in a background color?

  5. @DJCOYFISH i know eight but i dunno where you can get that tutotiral i have seen a tutorial where this guy puts some awsome tekst but i dunno where it is

  6. I have a question. Lets say i finish a project that has a text in a picture. When i open the project in photoshop, I want to edit the text let say from "have Camera, Will travel" into "I love travel". How can i edit because when i click the text button and try to edit it, it making new layer. Is there a way to change the text? Thank you

  7. THANK YOU, really simple and very useful,i hereby invite you to watch my song videos. thanks once again.

  8. How do I save it I did a headshot but, the text wasn't there when I saved it to my pc this is my first time trying this out

  9. I did this but instead of letters appearing on the photo all I get is straight lines representing
the length of each sentence I typed. What kind of preference did I miss that allows the physical typing to actually show up as letters atop the PS image? I started with a flattened PS file,
    using CS 4.

    Tks!!!

  10. That just mean that the words you are typing are in a layer behind the image. Go to the image panel on the right and drag the text layer to the top of the list.

  11. i wanna do this with 600 pictures, all of them with the same words, can i somehow automatically add it to multiple pictures?

  12. i usually work with my own pictures because I dont want someone walking in and thinking that i am gay or that whatever girl i have on my screen i must be in love with.

  13. Anthony, your tutorials are well-explained and easy to follow. I highly appreciate the effort that you have gone through to make them and post them. You're AWESOME!!

  14. i did exactly how you indicated but even i put the biggest size of the letter, the text is still small, can you help me?

  15. Im having a serious problem. I place the dot thingy and it appears but the flickering line doesn't. None of my texts show up either. I right click and click on spelling errors and it shows that they are there but i cant see them. And if i hold onto a letter, this line starts coming out of the dot. I dont know whats up, plz help me.

  16. Hi Steve
I am a musician trying to make my own 12" vinyl record labels. Typically, I open a program and spend ages trying to figure out how to figure out how to do stuff, rarely looking at the manual. How stupid is that?! Anyway, just subscribed, I like your presentation, and very useful, clear information. Thanks!

  17. How about showing someone where the text tool is and if you need to put picture in "Quick, Guided, or Expert"?? If we already know all that we could probably do it on our own.

  18. Looks like something is missing on your end as nothing happens when typing using"T" in text mode – actually PS only allows one letter then exits text mode

  19. You forgot to mention the first step which is to click on the image area – without that you could type the entire constitution and nothing happens!
