The Big Picture: June 2019

Another school year is in the books… and
to describe everything we have accomplished and have done as a school corporation would
take far longer than you’d want to watch on here. But what I would like to say – is thank
you. Thank you for making Hamilton Southeastern
Schools a unique place to learn and work. It’s important to reflect on the number
of students we serve – more than 21,500. That’s is the size of a large town.
With that many individuals, we are bound to experience some issues, but what I am most
proud of… is how we have overcome those issues and the direction we are headed in
today. From mourning the loss of beloved staff members
to redrawing school boundary lines to revising a 19-year-old anti-discrimination policy…
we have done a lot since last August. And in just a few weeks, we will be opening
a new elementary school – Southeastern – on Cyntheanne Road. We will also be – officially — flipping
the switch on our solar project – that will power three school campuses. New leadership at Hamilton Southeastern High
School will be joining us. And students at Fall Creek Junior High and
Fall Creek Intermediate will be led by different administration as well. We are in the midst of planning the launch
of CurioCity – a partnership with the City of Fishers… which fosters a community of
connections and an investment in future workforce by exposing students to real-world industry
problems and solutions. While changes can be unsettling to some, we
hope you will find them to be exciting! We also want to update you on the work our
schools are doing to advance FutureReady skills for students. Teams of teachers, counselors, parents and
community leaders have analyzed data and developed strategies to build critical mindsets and
dispositions that our students will need to navigate a complex, global environment. Research in this area is clear.
These social emotional and employability skills compliment academics, reduce barriers to learning,
and help prepare students to continue success in college, career, and life. To all of you that participated in the Panorama
Survey – we appreciate the time and thought you spent doing so. We are proud to have received more than 26,000
responses directly from stakeholders. Your input helps to guide our efforts by highlighting
what is effective and surfacing gaps that need to be addressed. Early results validated the strong strides
our schools have made in the areas of school safety as well as opportunities for growth
in areas like grit and growth mindset. The full report of survey results — as well
as highlights of our efforts will be available on hseschools.org by the end of summer. I suggest that you also follow, like and subscribe
to Hamilton Southeastern Schools on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn. We are constantly posting updates and items
of interest. Enjoy your summer… and we will see you back
on Wednesday, August 7th.
