THE HATE U GIVE and why you need to watch it – MOVIE REVIEW (THUG MOVIE)

hey what’s up you guys so I just got out
from seeing the hate u give and I decided I wanted to do a little vlog
type informal review so um I guess let’s just get right into it the hate u
give is a movie about a girl named starr who witnesses an unarmed black man get
shot and then she becomes the like prime witness and all that and it’s basically
about how she has to deal with the death her race and race relations in the
country and all kinds of stuff so I mean I’m sure you can already assume that I’m
gonna say this is probably one of the most powerful prevalent poignant movies
that I’ve seen this year I cried like three times at least and I loved it I
truly loved it this movie was based on a book by Angie Thomas of the same name
and eight stars Amandla Stenberg Regina Hall Russell
Hornsby as her parents and Issa Rae Common Anthony Mackie and even KJ Apa the
movie was directed by George Tillman Jr who has directed quite a few movies
before but the only one that I’ve seen before is the longest ride I believe
starring Scott Eastman and I mean it’s quite different from this movie yes
they’re both books before but they’re both very different genres and honestly
I feel like this is Tillman’s like Forte this was incredible it’s just really
important I think and quite thought-provoking especially for young
adults you know and not even that it’s not it is a why a book but it’s a it’s a
topic that spans generations it isn’t just for young adults it is for everyone
and it is a learning experience it is obviously a very politically driven plot
and it definitely shines a lot of light on
very very prevalent cases going on in incidents that may be going on as well
but it does so in a very relatable and touching way I think the cast of this
movie did so amazing a man list and Berg did absolutely incredible the only thing
that I have seen her in before is the Hunger Games as Rue but dang she did
great I mean she didn’t have much of a role as Rue in the movies but I feel
like she’s grown so much as 1. an activist and 2. an actress because in
this movie she does she gave such an incredible raw performance and the other
person who I think did absolutely impeccable was Russell Hornsby who
played her father his role his performance was heart-wrenching it was
so good I loved him some of the most like touching raw moments were the ones
that had both of them in it and I loved it
KJ Apa who plays Archie and Riverdale was also in this movie and his role was
so good – Starr goes to a different school she goes to like a private
quote/unquote white school and KJ Apa is her boyfriend and his role in all of
this is just so endearing and sweet and like very relatable to me honestly and I
loved that aspect of it I loved having him there I loved having his genuine raw
feelings for her and I thoroughly enjoyed that part this movie was given a
limited release on October 5th but will be getting a widespread release on
October 19th I believe so I highly highly suggest that you all go watch
this because you will be supporting movies that have very important messages
I suggest watching this if you want even a blip of understanding of what’s going
on in our current political societal cultural climate because it will really
give that to you these are the kind of books and movies
that can shape a generation you know these are the kind of books and movies
that young adults should be watching and consuming because it’ll teach them so
much more than just a random lecture in a class it just has so much power behind
it and I support it fully I give this movie a four out of five for the great
direction the great story it’s well-written and it’s very well
performed especially by Amandla Stenberg and Russell Hornsby because they were
the standout stars of this movie so if you saw this movie you’re gonna see this
movie please let me know in the comments down below because I would love to hear
what you say and definitely let me know if you like this style of review it’s a
