The Love for German Film – Allianz Deutscher Produzenten Film & Fernsehen

The work is so fascinating,
it makes you want to become a producer. It’s as if we’re still in a cave,
showing things nobody has ever seen before. The fascsinating thing is
that you get to tell stories. And that you get to meet people
who enable you tell those stories. In the village I grew up,
we only had a post office and a cinema. I think that says it all. This feeling that you can talk to other people,
and create something, that moves other people
is the most wonderful moment for all of us. Why do you do films, Henry? Why do I make films? The great thing about producers is that they are both entrepreneurs
and people with an artistic ambition. I’m in a hurry,
I’m hunting down a dangerous criminal. But let’s take a picture first. The German Producer’s Alliance
is the go-to interest group for Germany’s
film and TV industry. A voice formed
when the Alliance was founded. The unified voice. In the first years
the Alliance faced some challenges, but since then
it’s become very active and professional. It has become a large,
strong association, that represents the interests
of the whole industry. That has been
a great accomplishment. It has been a huge progress
to create the Alliance, but ten years already,
that’s incredible! It doesn’t look like that. Yeah, it looks much younger! The Producer’s Alliance has produced a lot
over the last ten years. – Yeah, even as the Alliance
they’ve produced a lot. TERMS OF TRADE FILM SUBSIDY LAW TELECOMMUNICATION MEDIA ACT COPYRIGHT LAW UNIONS AND MANAGEMENT TRANSPARENCY PRODUCER’S ROLE MODEL THINKTANK EDUCATION AND TRAINING CIRCLE OF FRIENDS German Producer’s Day Carl-Laemmle Producer’s Price Animation Germany Initiative for Qualification Producer’s Services Ten years ago nobody would have thought
we would have come that far… that the Producer’s Alliance
would achieve this much. CONTACT PERSON FOR POLITICS AND THE CONTRACTORS Political changes show
that the Producer’s Alliance is starting to be heard. The Sensation More Subsidies for the Film Industry More Money for Films It is kind of a trademark
of the Producer’s Alliance that we love
to achieve concrete results. Twenty rounds of negotiations with ARD or ZDF
throughout two years… But in the end you have a document
that revolutionizes the terms of business. I am really happy
about these term sheets. They’re definitely
an economical improvement for us producers. I think it’s great
that there is an Alliance. Now we are harassed
by only one group instead of several. Which is better
because we always know who to talk to. It’s easier
to negotiate with professionals. The Producer’s Alliance
is the NATO of German Film. Yeah, maybe even the UN. And also a bit of WHO. They are like
German Film Health Organisation. Fair partnership ZDF and producers agree on
fair general conditions Films aren’t screws Partner of the independents Awards for audience success PRODUCER’S RECEPTION I have been
to the Producer’s Reception. It has always rained. But the parties are just beautiful. I met this
wonderful man here. That’s right,
we met last year. It was a personal gain
for all of us when we realized:
wow, there’s so many of us! It’s very important that people
network among themselves. And that we overcome
this competitive thinking: what are our common interests
and what can we achieve together? We are all
one big family here. And even more so
in the movie business. In a sense we’re all competitors,
but my experience is, that you can talk to each other,
and support each other. You would never call somebody up
if you didn’t know each other this way. There is one thing
I wish for producers, that they are able to profit from their success
enough to be able to reinvest later on. When a platform commissions a series,
when new actors enter the scene, we experience a pluralisation of the market
and thus more competition. I think producers
will benefit from that. I love shooting films
and you love it, too. We just want to do more films
and create even more great things. And this is why we are here,
so that we all meet up and make plans
to shoot really good stuff soon. It is exciting. For me it the most exciting time,
since I work as a producer. The phase we are in right now:
with these new technological possibilities. And I don’t mean just in Germany,
this is global. So I’d say: people, go to the US, go to other countries,
and bring back the spirit you find there. And suddenly we saw
that people anticipated it
much quicker than we ever could. The audience wants
more serious content now. They want to be challenged seriously, which means for us filmmakers,
we should try to raise the bar again. And this is
why I’m so optimistic that German Producer’s will have
a great future in the 21st century. And here we see today: what were once differences
are today overlapping points. Now we can work on these together.
That’s great.
