  1. i was a kid when this movie came out in 1965 and I was MESMERIZED by what I saw there on the big screen. There has been no other musical film that comes close to the overall beauty of this movie!! It's true what has been said about Austrians not knowing the significance of this American film. Years Ago, when I visited Austria, i could not find one native of Austria who knew anything about this movie!!!

  2. When I was a child, maybe 5 years old, in the 80s I saw this movie for the first time. Although I didn't enjoy it terribly much my mother said I would appreciate it when I'm older and she was right. Even if I died in laughter everytime the girl said "TT". Lol

  3. A cult classic movie which must be seen seated comfortably, to transport you into the serene Austrian mountains and valleys. It brings a total transformation in you whether you are following the story track or not. God Bless the Viewers of the world and the Von Trapp families in Austria.

  4. Itโ€™s interesting that Robert Wise use this edit due to Charmine & Heather are out of sync on the steps. I only realized they messed up a few years ago. Still a great number.

  6. This is so funny. I actually saw the film more than 50 years ago! I never saw it again โ€” or maybe once on a small old TV โ€”. And yet, just from the time I saw it as a child, the songs stayed with me forever, with few parts of the lyrics. And that was hard because I didn't speak any English at the time.ย
It's the first time that I can re-watch this properly, thanks to youtube. Very very nice. Amazing choreography. And such a wonderful talented composition. I wonder from where did these people get their inspiration.ย
We lived in Portugal on a totally different level.ย
If there was anyone at that time to tell me that one could actually LEARN to sing such songs… dance such dances, I would have, and that would have changed my life all together, right there. ๐Ÿ™‚
(Oh yes, years ago on youtube I had watched a bit of the movie, but not really good enough. And this scene, for instance, I didn't even remember it and didn't see it for more than 50 years, thus. Lovely)

  7. how is julie andrews still really pretty even at 83 years old? she aged amazingly, and hopefully she can stay around for a long time!

  9. people throw about the word beautiful at every occasion, but truly the scenery in this movie is staggering

  11. I've always thought that from 1:28 to the end they were just jumping up and down randomly on those steps, but I have just realised that they are jumping back and forth to the step that corresponds to the note they're singing.
That's why the two boys run ahead of them up the steps, they are singing 'so' on the fifth step while Maria is singing 'do' on the first.
They all get it perfectly except for Louisa. She and Liesl were supposed to jump from 'fa' to 'mi' straight away. Liesl did, Louisa didn't. At 1:36 she realises she's on the wrong step, goes to correct it, then jumps to 'fa', albeit a little late.

  12. Love this film and this song. When I ride my bike I think of this song. Such a pure and joyful song.

  16. When I was in Austria with my travel group we should have rode bicycles and sang this song! It would have been hilarious to see me with 5 other guys and 12 women singing this song in unison with the actual choreography!

  17. No CG. No stunts. No Hollywood explosions. No technology. Everything is so simple. Theyโ€™re walking and singing and itโ€™s the most memorable movie ever. Great script. Great music. Something sorely missing from todayโ€™s productions filled with vulgar language, bedroom scenes, and loud bangs and CGI just to keep people entertained. In comparison writers donโ€™t write like this anymore.
