Welcome to Earth – Short Sci-fi Film | The Netherlands (2019)

Sense of hearing detected. Visual sense detected. If you have found a history satellite… … and accustomed a childling of your species with human speech and earthly visual concepts… … let it select the following earth concepts. Horse. Tree. Satellite. Knowledge and understanding of human speech confirmed. This museum of human history was founded in the year 2117… … with support of the council of human preservation. It is meant to showcase the history of humanity. It is a human custom to greet one another so: Welcome to Earth. Unfortunately, we’ve gone extinct. This museum contains 10 billion records… … and ten million samples of human society. How? Spoken input accepted. Loading the struggle of mankind. Born or created, we struggled to understand. We build and created. We thrived. Explored. Fought. And lost. We took too much and brought our world down on ourselves. In the end it was both the ice and desert. The freezing cold and endless sands in which no human can survive… … that suffocated us. Our exploration of the stars was in its infancy. But we build vessels to send ambassadors throughout the universe. In the hope of finding other lifeforms. In the hope of finding help. Touch input detected. Ambassador Rene Shepard joined the fleet in 2087. He was selected one of seven ambassadors. As fourth best student in his class of 400. Ladies and gentlemen… … I present to you: The knowledge probe. It contains everything to teach an alien child our language. 6000 are already out there. The last seven will be accompanied by humans. By you. You will find the extraterrestrials. Use this to teach one our language. And convince them to aid us. There has never been a mission more vital than this one. Once you’ve all made it safely into space… … the entire world will know you’re out there. Representing us. On behalf of the council of human preservation. And the entire human race. I thank you for your service. Do you swear to find extraterrestrial help. Or die trying? I swear! I now give you… … our ambassadors of Earth! Don’t forget to send a postcard! From space? Of course! I’ll have an alien deliver it! Dear boy. I still can’t believe you’re going up there. Please drive safely. It’s a spaceship mom. Not a car. Of course he will Agnes! I’m so proud of you! Hey! Rene! Pose for the picture! What is it with you and ancient technology? I just like it more. It’s so… Old fashioned? It’s called authentic. You could try to appreciate it more! Thanks. I guess. On his departure he left his wife Mae Rose and his children. It’ll be fine. They’re out there somewhere. And I’ll find them. Just make sure you come back to us. If anything happens, we’ll help you. This all feels wrong. I mean, the children. What if… Clearance for take off confirmed. Don’t worry dear. I made him promise to drive safely. It’s just. How long before he comes back? Control: Ready to enter Hyperdrive. Entering Hyperspace in 3… 2… 1… Starting scans for first waypoint. Log entry. First waypoint. Readings show… … no life-forms. Log entry received and confirmed. Please proceed to the next waypoint. Preparing for Hyperspace jump. In 3… 2 … 1… But with our technology…. Travelling through the fabric of space was perilous. Fourth waypoint. Going back into Hyperspace. Getting ready. 3… 2… 1… Maisy? Maisy?! Check his vitals. Attention! Com officers. It seems we have lost one of our ambassadors. But we need to carry on with our mission. Please proceed. Preparing for second hyperspace jump. Log entry. Waypoint 18. Log entry received and confirmed. My ship is breaking up! Star system 74! Starting scans now. Caution: oxygen malfunction. Meteor shower, just a little one. Roger. Good jump. Scans are complete. Readings show no lifeforms. Readings show no lifeforms. No lifeforms shown by sensors. Please proceed. Breach. Tell my little girl I love her. Please proceed. Warning: Depressurization. Carry on. Oxygen failure. Oxygen… Carry on. Pressure failure. How’re you doing down there? Okay? How about Rene? Really? I’ll beat him! Ready to rock and roll control! 2.. 1.. I’m too close to the sun! Trying to… Please confirm your position! Check the vitals. Good morning ambassador. Everything is fine. Please proceed to waypoint 65. Log entry. Waypoint 213. Readings show: No lifeforms. Any news? All is well. No signs of other lifeforms yet though. Good. Relay to Tess… … I’ll beat her to them! Control? We’ll do that. Just keep digging. Okay? Roger that. Back to work. Inputing coordinates for waypoint 214. Rene? Scanners are showing a breach. Rene? Do you read? Rene do you read? Rene? Rene! In the end… … even our last ambassador was lost. An unknown accident caused him to crash 12 days after departure. Cause of death: Rapid freezing… … due to an extremely hostile atmosphere. If your race posesses the right technology there’s a 10% chance of reviving his preserved body. He was the last ambassador to die. We can’t allow the public to go into a panic. These men died for us! Aim. Fire! A private funeral was held. His death marked the end of the alien outreach program. No help was found. The public was never informed of the deaths of the ambassadors. His personal files are publicly accesible. This personal file contains 10.332 written messages… … 869 pictures and 53 video entries. Which one would you like to see? All of them.

  1. More leftist, commie propoganda. This story line is hackneyed at best. All these short films are about the same thing. It's gotten real old.

  2. Is human life really worth saving? Would an alien species actually help us with our murdering nature?
Maybe just maybe alien life forms do exist and do everything to not be found by us because eventually humans will kill all alien life forms and take over the inhabitable planet so that the human race can take over and the new cycle begins with the eventual same results.

  3. Well, all they needed was to the ambassadors to relay new worlds conditions along with the initial plan, select a suitable planet, and build and send away between 50/500 people to make a new colony, Yay, humanity is saved! You dont even need gigantic colony ships, just build enough small ones.

  4. This is very real. Man is ruining the Earth but not much longer. Our Creator soon is going to clean up the Earth. Revelation 11:18.

  5. it s good but late. for this understanding level to far from man kind. we wont evolve our toughts such universal being.

  6. SUBterranean. subTERRAnean.

    Role models:
    1. Mole Man — Fantastic 4 #1.
    2. Gen. J. Mattoon (ECOMCON) Scott @ Mount Thunder ((Weather)) — "7 Days in May."
    3a. Syndrome — "The Incredibles."
    3b. The Underminer — "The Incredibles — 2."
For 50 years (at least), supervillains have known (along with everybody else) "Go under, young man."

    Interstellar? Interschmeller.

  7. the real joke here is the fact that at some point in the distant future, mankind will be faced with this very dilemma…science fact, not fiction…

  8. I’ve got to stop reading all the negative Nancy comments on these short films.

They just nitpick and crap on.

Make your own damn film you chumps.

  9. The problem with finding alien life isn't space – it is time. We are here for but a single grain of sand in the planet-sized hourglass of the universe. We could look in all the right places and be off by 50,000 years or 5 years or 5 billion years from when someone is there to receive us. Alien life will never be found until the problem of time is conquered.

  10. Welcome to planet Earth. You will be informed of your medical clearance number and the procedures in your continued evolution.

  11. This is just a sci fi short film finding ET's but what the they exist in reality. UFO caught on F-18 camera is a hard evidence and soft disclosure of UFOs by the Pentagon. Havent u guys heard of Luis Elazando? He's the guy who told the media that UFOs and Aliens exist. There is a crashed cigar UFO on the far side of the moon. Go n search on Google moon.

  12. Furious Furian is right, the ending was immediately exposed when the fella started messing with the helmet the first time, let alone the following repeats of helmet play. If film re-edited to remedy this then so much more impact at end could result.

  13. So let me get this straightall of us came together to build these ships and these little computers to send out among the Stars looking for help but no one at all. Thought of colonizing the moon Mars or even building massive space stations in orbit around the Earthbut let's skip all of that and send out individual people to look for help

  14. Considering how Muslims are invading Europe the only thing that will be extinguished in the near future will be the Europeans!!!

  15. this movie is dumb! I say if they had a "hyperdrive" capable of traveling faster than light why they simply didn't leave and founded colonies in other star systems? A lazy script that tries to deliver a stupid message that can only have left the head of some european communist leftists!

  16. Lackluster acting, poor storyline, lousy effects. Seems to have been done by kids in high schools. Maybe it was. There was no real point to the short. What was the message of the movie? Wait, there was none. The "a-ha" moment, the final reveal was obvious within minutes. Sorry to be so harsh, but these are truthful statements, if you think otherwise, do a focus group and you will learn the hard way.

  17. So the human race stuffs up the planet and then looks for help LOL, Humans thinking they are so important when we are just specks in the cosmos.

  18. Seems a bit over dramatic to drape a sheet over the comms panel. Seems to me leaving it uncovered incase they start receiving telemetry or something again would be prudent. Also, if we possessed the technology to travel to such distant places in such a short time span, our continued survival would be guaranteed via colonization efforts; no aliens required, just a class M planet. Shoot, there would have absolutely been a large colony on Mars by that point as well.

  19. "Pay no attention to the woman behind the curtain" Shades of the initial meeting of the Wizard of Oz. I was expecting the selection screen to show a Brain, A Heart, and a Courage Medal…..and maybe a hotair balloon for a ride back to Kansas.

  20. Mmmmh… nice movie ! Good narration and I love the aesthetic. Sometime I get bored with post-apocalyptic epics, I'm quite aged, and half a century ago, same movies showed the end of human kind for 1980's, then 2000's, then 2040's… So, I wonder if I'd better read millenarian epics of middle Age 😉 But tmho you've done a good job folks !!

  21. According to professor Guy McPherson the human race has only 10 years left.
But this was a good movie and who knows, maybe aliens will visited earth when we are gone.
We think we are something and that we are civilized, but as you look closely to our society we have made little progress since the Roman Empire.
Of course, we now have all kinds of technology, but that didn't make us better.
We are still barbaric in the sense of how we treat each other and the resources of the earth.

  22. Reminds me of a Scientology video ie the scene with the people in white naval suites. But really a Polaroid camera in the future that works and has film in it. 2117 any stock left would have been gone by now. But the reveal is like ok that was expected. Surely they’d have super duper 128k cameras with 3d as normal.

  23. OH NO we killed ourselves because we didn't find outside help in time because we were all too stupid.

Well, I concede some humans really ARE stupid.

  24. Whenever a sci fi movie uses the term "universe" I cringe so fucking hard. The Universe is SO FUCKING BIG, why cant people understand that? There will likely never be a time where we can collectively use the term universe as anything other than a place. When I hear mankind searching the universe, that's an automatic SciFi fail.

  25. So, a private funeral, with armed forces assistance, was held. And somehow public never knew that all ambasadors had died.
Oh, sweet summer children from Western Europe, you're almost adorable in your naivety.

  26. This short made me think about a short SF story I once read. Same basic concept. Mankind is in trouble and is screaming to space 'help'. But when the aliens arrive on Earth all humans are gone. There are video cameras broadcasting what is going on at Earth to space. – At the edge of death mankind united and made remarkable scientific advances and evacuated Earth. – Probably highly unlikely but I liked that plot.

  27. If this short film was made back in 1933, it would have really had a lot of competition for best effects with the movie King Kong…

  28. Wow,a film Trump would be very proud of,no blacks, natives, asians or anyone,I guess all of us died out are was just kept out…otherwise good movie I guess…

  29. I remember Stories of a glorious civilization,
    With myths of humanity everlasting…
Of children who saw in the embers of dying stars the destiny of their race.
And they hurled themselves into the void of space with no fear.

  30. Thank you for the heart felt response and yes I do appreciate that, still a good movie though.hope things continue to grow for your company.

  31. Very nice, although the central action of sending humans on such a quest is absurd. Certainly machines could have done a better job. We can detect earth like planets now from earth. Certainly, in a couple hundred years we would not have to leave earth to see what intelligent life was having for dinner many light years away.

  32. I knew the ending within the 1st 2 minutes but I always do. It was a damned good film anyway. I can actually see that happening to us. if any countries are going to destroy the planet it will be my country under that idiot Trump. If we destroy ourselves first someone record that many of us tried to fight him.

  33. Better than me trying to see if my ship could escape a black hole by going to hyperspace…. Luckily I had chosen to use a large battleship 😀

  34. it was very predictable, and a lot little details of the film amateur kitchen, the helmet to big for Rene's head. no wonder space ships go all broken and lost : old, weak and cheap constructed, typical militaries. the story not new but man can feel the sensation big movie makers on their children years. congratulations.
sad story, we are all dead. …

  35. Would love to see this as a full lenth film, fanastic. this is denenitly one of the best shorts ive seen on TY in a long time.

  36. It's all good man, they inevitably froze enough people for your blue friends to get a viable population going. Just uh… you know, make clones of the others instead of reviving them. That way you don't just have a few thousand people that are, uh…. well… Here's a mirror.

  37. at first i was confused why he was asking "how" when he found out the human race became extinct but once I started to catch on it was hard to hold back the feels.
